Parts of a flower

Today we discussed the parts of a flower.  We cut out flower pieces.

I made one too as we discussed where all the parts went.

 We labeled all the parts.

Our finished flower.

What Plants Need

We continue to monitor our plants and are keeping a sharp eye on them to see how they are growing.
We have been filling out our charts every 5 days.

Now that they have grown a bit, we talked about what plants need to grow.

My non-verbal children got a communication board with the symbols that we would be using.

Each child got one of these sheets to fill out.

Together we made a chart with what plants need.

The children had to cut out the correct symbol and word to make their sentence.

For my students that could print, I had them print out their responses.

New App

I found the coolest app the other day.  It's called SPEAK all! and it's free.

It was developed by the Purdue University EPICS Department and designed to help children with special needs learn the process of constructing sentences. Even though the app was developed with non-verbal children in mind, I could see it being used with children who need help in making sentences.

The cells can be customized with pictures and recorded voice.
You can touch or drag the cells to the blue bar at the bottom to make sentences. It will then read it for you.
Has anyone else tried it?
